18B ARTS DISTRICT PARKING GARAGE MURAL - ELECTRIC DESERT
Selected through a national and international artist search by Laura Henkel, Electric Desert was commissioned by the City of Las Vegas as the signature public artwork for the new 18b Arts District Parking Garage at Casino Center Boulevard and Utah Avenue.
Spanning approximately 65 feet tall, the mural transforms a civic structure into a celebration of Las Vegas—its landscape, its people, and its enduring spirit. Inspired by the beauty of the Mojave Desert, the work blends Joshua trees, mountain horizons, desert sunrises, and ancient petroglyphs with the electric energy, bold colors, and iconic Googie architecture that have become synonymous with the city.
From a distance, thousands of vibrant dots evoke the lights of Las Vegas and the diversity of the community. As viewers move closer, the imagery reveals layers of history, where ancestral symbols gradually evolve into contemporary icons representing the city's creativity, resilience, entertainment heritage, and entrepreneurial spirit. Anchoring the composition is the simple message "Love Vegas," a reminder that the city's greatest landmark has always been its people.
Electric Desert reflects the evolution of Las Vegas itself—a place where ancient stories meet new dreams, where nature and neon coexist, and where every generation leaves its mark on the landscape.
